I had MS on Luke. Got me a oneshot against Backstabber, completely ruined Dark Curse's day, and a console fire on a Y-Wing. I don't regret taking it.

Confirmation Bias
Anecdotal evidence

Marksmanship on Luke is decent because his pilot ability is like a defensive focus which eliminates the upgrades's drawback. If a squad has the three extra points to spend, it could do worse than select that upgrade but I wouldn't go out of my way to add it.

well badsaturn i think you should keep marksmanship, and lose all your astromechs. and drop wedge.

Well, you didn't say it before, so I mentioned it. MS is good a) on Luke b) against Dark Curse. That seems enough use for it to not be the worst upgrade.

Clearly anyone who thinks Marksmanship is a good upgrade is basing their assumptions on anecdotal evidence to support a confirmation bias, while anyone who thinks Marksmanship is the worst upgrade in the game is unbiased because their anecdotal evidence is better.

Confirmation Bias

a) Lots of upgrades are good on Luke
b) Dark Curse isn't a threat

All the other upgrades (except for Expose) are cheaper and/or do more. The upgrades that only cost 1 aren't great but they are good for reaching the point cap to avoid initiative. The upgrades that cost 2 are all better most of the time or have important uses. Push the Limit is definitely better and Daredevil is better on ships with a boost icon (terrible on ships without it, though). Expose is terrible most of the time and costs more so it probably will be the worst when it arrives.

If I had to choose any upgrade card on an X-Wing, I'd choose Push the limit. It turns any ship into Vader and the stress token will be irrelevant much of the time because it will be possible to choose a green maneuver before the token prevents another action from happening. Also, PtL is a better damage increase on X-Wings (or any ship with 3 attack dice) because it allows Target Lock and Focus in a single turn on at least 3 dice which is usually better than +0.3 average damage a turn against Imperial ships. Pushing through an extra crit is worth less than +0.25 extra damage when not taking into account the other effects.

Marksmanship and Expose are the worst because everything else is better.

In a fight between that list and Wedge + R2D2 + Push the Limit + Stealth (39 pts), I'd bet on Wedge.

How about the Shield Upgrade instead of Stealth Mod for an even 40? R2 just keeps bringing back that 3rd shield again and again.

I don't have my cards with me, but is it actually possible for R2 to restore that shield? Not saying that he can not, but there may be a variable that prevents that particular shield from being restored. Strategically, though, I'd say it's probably overkill.

i have used marksmanship a few times but for the extra points it usually doesnt make it ito the list. I usually pick wedge over luke, next time I try luke I might go with marksmanship.
