So, the Pilot card, Ship token and Move Dial token all have identifying information attributes to set. They all have the same key shortcut to set attributes. So select them all, hit [Shift+P] to name your Pilot, [Shift+N] to give him his Craft ID #. If all 3 pieces are selected, you'll set these attributes at the same time.
Type the Pilot name, Copy it [Ctrl+C], hit ok, Paste it [Ctrl+V] into the next prompt.
Tap the Number and hit [Enter] 3 times
Hold [Alt] and Tap [P] to + your Pilot Skill, [A] to + Attack, [D] to + Defense [H] to + Hull, [S] to + Shields on Ship token.

See it done...

The end is how I set up my screen to play. Pieces palette next to the map, my hand to the left, dice center, Damage Deck above hand. If I had an opponent whose hand I wanted to watch, I'd open his hand and just zoom in and out as I needed, and tuck it behind my hand with a diagonal offset so I could click between them.

You are free to do whatever makes sense to you. But here's a screenshot of my screen layout during a game.

Notice: All pilot Names and Numbers are identified. It's only polite.
Taking your Move Dial off the map to make your moves is also polite, and required. Changing your move on the map will be reported as cheating to prevent players from switching their moves after seeing their opponents moves.
Pulling them to your hand to set move, then placing them back on the map is also a clear visual indicator that you are ready to commence.

See "Set Preferences" movie to see how I split my windows.

These movies are a step-by-step help pack. Don't skip a step!

There was a question about how to Save and Load a squad (deck) in the Player hand. So here's a video explaining the process.
